Christmas is Here!

Am I the only one here who is totally obsessed with it?

Well, I thought it would be fun to share somMerre of my favorite Christmas traditions!

Do ya’ll have any of the same traditions? What other traditions do ya’ll have? I’d love to hear… who knows, maybe it’ll be that start of another Christmas tradition! 😜

Here is our family’s favorite traditions:

DECORATING DAYπŸŽ„ — The day after thanksgiving (aka. Decorating day, or Black Friday), is one of my favorite days of the year. We jam out the Christmas music, make spiced apple cider, and start baking cookies to ‘set’ the Christmas spirit in place! πŸ˜ƒ While all those delicious aromas and wonderful sounds are wafting through the house, we start decorating! My sister and I decorate our room, while the boys decorate theirs, putting lights up in every nook and cranny. We put lights and wreaths up outside, and decorate the interior of our home with candles, lights, and, of course, the tree! 😁We have a traditional supper — Turkey A’laking — and resort to the couch where we watch ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ while sipping hot apple cider and eating our freshly baked cookies (which we sorta go all out on!) And I decorated my bulletin board too!

CHRISTMAS COOKIES — As I said, we sorta go all out on the cookies…. we make about 8 kinds of cookies…. so ya, it’s pretty awesome! πŸ˜‚ I don’t think much more has to be said here. 😜

DRAWING NAMES — Since there are six kids in my family, it’d be a bit much for each of us to buy everyone a gift. So, we do a Secret Santa sort of a thing where we draw names out of a cup to see who we’ll be buying gifts for that year. This year was the first year where we didn’t have to return our slips to the cup because we drew ourselves (at least, that I can rememberπŸ˜‰)! 🎁

ST. NICHOLAS DAY — St. Nicholas Day (Dec. 6) is really fun for our family. It’s the day that ‘St. Nick’ (actually Mom) fills our stockings and shoes with treats. The night before, we always clean our shoes, put them outside, and read a book about St. Nick — a priest who blessed a family by putting money in their shoes at night. Definitely a Christmas favorite!

*I’m starting to realize we have a lot of Christmas traditions!*

JESSE ADVENT TREE πŸŽ„– It’s actually called an Advent Jesse Tree, but our family always calls it the Jesse Advent Tree. It’s a devotional that takes us from Creation to Jesus’ Birth. For every devotional, there’s a corresponding ornament that we put on the small Christmas tree! It’s really fun! (especially back when we couldn’t remember what the ornaments would be…. now we’re old enough to remember all the ornaments, but it’s still fun!)

**And it seems as though I have a lot of favorite traditions too…πŸ€”πŸ˜œ**

CHRISTMAS EVE — Christmas Eve is another on of those days that we have a lot of traditions. We always attend a Candle Light Service at church with our grandparents, aunt, and uncle. We also look at lights together and eat the most delicious German meal called Sauerbraten (as my Grandma is German). We also exchange gifts and open them then! 🎁

CHRISTMAS DAY — Christmas Day we usually get up pretty early… you know, who can sleep when their so excited? Even when they got home at 11 or 12 the night before? Well, we always have the same delicious breakfast… oranges, Stollen (a sweet German bread), pineapple… mmm so good! (I love fruit!!) Then we open presents. Because we do a secret Santa exchange, there’s lots of speculating about who has who… Then our grandparents, aunt, and uncle come over to our home and enjoy good fellowship and delectable food! 😁

Well, that turned out to be basically all of our traditions, not a select few. Our family has some fun giving that we do during the Christmas season, which always makes the best memories EVER! So giving is my ultimate favorite part of the season! It’s true that giving is truly more blessed than receiving. 🎁😊

Although, we could never be more blessed by that gift that God gave us on Christmas Day — Jesus Christ! While He likely wasn’t born on December 25, His birth is surely one worth celebrating! For a whole month! (And some!) πŸ˜„

So, Princess, what are your favorite Christmas traditions that your family does? Does your family celebrate Christmas anything like mine? Or is yours totally different? Please share in the comments!

Oh, also, there are some new festive polls that you should check out! πŸ˜‰

Love in Christ, Noelle Rose

  1. We also decorate after Thanksgiving or a few days before, bake cookies and attend the same functions on Christmas Eve and Day. Also we like going to Winter Haven to look at lights with this awesome family we have and I love my Hallmark Christmas movies. Writing out a Christmas letter and cards, keeping in touch with friends and family we have not spoken to all year and then hearing back from them and catching up.
